Petworth News on hiatus

Greetings Petworthians. First of all, apologies, I realize Petworth News hasn't been updated as regularly over the last year or so. Partly there's less news, aside from the obvious biggies, like Park Place and Yes market opening. Reader submissions have been down for some time. And bottom line, I just haven't had the time to give PN the attention it needs to keep thriving.

For a while now I've considered giving it a rest. Yes, Petworth certainly continues to grow and change in exciting ways, and I still think the site has value to the community.

But, giving it a rest is what I'm going to do, at least for a while. By a 'rest', I don't mean I'm taking PN down, just that I'm putting it into official standby mode indefinitely. I'll keep it up for a period of time as a resource, at the least. If there are new and compelling reasons to add very occasional posts, or to restart or reinvent things, I may do that. Or, I suppose I may eventually just take it down altogether. We'll see. I suggest bookmarking the RSS feed so you'll know if there ever are any new posts.

In the meantime, for those looking for news about Petworth I suggest the wonderful Prince of Petworth blog, which is citywide now but is sure to be right on top of major goings-on in the neighborhood. Also, DC Kaleidoscope posts regular items about Petworth.

It's been a pleasure serving the community since starting PN on a whim in 2004. Since this isn't goodbye, I won't give a flowery sign-off. Though I will say, we're lucky to live where we do. Petworth has special qualities that I think will only shine through more and more as time goes on. Let's all keep doing our part as Petworth citizens to help shape the progress of the area in positive ways. 

Ok, I guess that was a little flowery.

I enjoyed reading the blog. Any chance Bill might be interested in allowing others to be guest writers until he comes back? Any chance a group of neighborhood folks would be interested in taking over temporarily?

Thanks, Bill. I'm sure that working on this blog has consumed a lot of time and effort over the years. That effort, however, has clearly made a positive difference in this community, which you have helped to shape. You're a great neighbor. Cheers on your semi-retirement!

thanks, bill. it's sad to see neighborhood blogs go away, but i fear that the time for them has passed. very few neighborhoods still have a decent neighborhood blog remaining. i'm glad that i live in a neighborhood (trinidad) that does still have one.
