From Muriel Bowser's newsletter:
... At 3 pm on Monday, August 17, the grand opening of Yes! Organic Market will take place. The store is located at 4100 Georgia Avenue NW. Yes! will provide samples of fare available at the store. Police officers from the Fourth District will be on hand to distribute newsletters and other important safety materials. The arrival of Yes! is really a great day for Ward 4 and is just part of the Petworth community’s continued revitalization.
[Ed. note - Yes! will open on Wednesday 8/19 at 10am]
Two big thumbs up for Yes! Went there for the first time tonight and very happily surprised by how great it is. We need to support this great addition to the neighborhood!

I am so excited, and you cannot believe how the timing of this works for me. I just had back surgery and cannot drive, so the fact I can walk now to this grocery store and stock up on healthy, organic goodies, is extremely marvelous. I will be able to drive soon, and will once again shop some at Whole Foods near my work, but I plan on being a regular customer here.
Local grocery stores, even if a little pricier on some items, have a level of convenience that few appreciate until mobility is limited. And since I'm vegetarian and organic, Yes rocks!

Rent is probably cheaper!

I plan, and have already started, to support Yes by spending time learning what they stock and buying whatever I can there. It's not everyone's one-stop shop, but the selection is quite good and interesting; and if you're careful the prices are really not bad. Some items seem a little high, but for example, the cereal I buy is cheaper at Yes than at Whole Foods, which is already a dollar cheaper than at the Tivoli Giant.
I believe everyone can find something there for their taste and budget. I'd say people who don't support them at least from time to time don't really care about Petworth's development. Yes committed to Georgia Ave when few would, and give us a classy complement to the mediocre Safeway and Giant closest to us.

PC, do tell what you're doing to bring about your vision of Yes other than saying, "No!"

I was in the Yes Market yesterday, day 1 of the soft opening. The store is larger than their other markets, staff friendly, well designed aisles, parking in the back, healthy alternatives, good bulk food options, great prices on bulk cheeses, an excellent selection of beer and wine, organic milk, some small selection of fresh meats. Fresh breads.
Cheers to Yes opening in Petworth!
(Oh, it looks like some sort of hot food section will be opening in the back of the store soon!)

Err.. did you not see the very end of the store - they are clearly still building it out, but there are coffee pots there, and something what looks like its going to be either some baked goods, salads, or perhaps some grilled chicken or something.
Anyway, a great addition to the neighborhood!

I spent about an hour at the new Yes market yesterday. It's ok. No salad/soup bar, no in-house bakery, no cafe, no Yes brand products to offset the brandname prices. I find it ironic that they are placed under a low-moderate income apartment building rather than parkplace-dc at the Petworth Station where the rent starts $2,000 for 1BD/1bath?
