[from Joe Martin, ANC 4C Chair]
On Wednesday evening, the lights inside Grant Circle came on again for the first time in many, many months.
Thank you, Councilmember Bowser for your extra push. Pepco and National Park Service: It should not have taken so long.
The National Park Service and the DC Department of Transportation should consider some kind of soft barrier that would prevent the electrical box on the south side from being destroyed in the inevitable, future car accident.
A device to photograph speeder's license plates might help to calm the freeway-like rush along New Hampshire Avenue NW above Georgia.
Large reflective signs indicating a sharp turn should be placed in the circle directly in front of New Hampshire Avenue, in addition to a barrier in front of the electrical box.

By the way, I was walking the dog in the circle this weekend and saw the remnants of a fresh accident...shattered glass, cds all over hte place, skid marks, displaced concrete, etc.

I guess it is safe to assume their insurance is not paying for the damage to Grant Circle.
Could the park build something around the electrical equipment?
Maybe they should put barriers or something to stop the cars?
The whole thing seems crazy to me,

Matt, it's those cars that go flying, literally airborne, usually in the wee hours. The one time I showed up right after an accident, our local cops were dealing with a drunk who denied he'd even been driving the car. It's a miracle a pedestrian hasn't been killed there.

This must be the third or fourth time I have heard this exact same thing about Grand Circle Lights.
Why is it so hard to keep them on?

congratulations on getting your lights back on. i sent a letter to councilman evans down in ward 2 to get the lights on in logan circle, and have seen a flurry of emails between the NPS, evans' office, and DDOT. hopefully, we'll have lights in that circle as well soon.
