Warehouse moving to CH?
[from the Editor] The Prince of Petworth blog reports that Warehouse Theater may be moving to Columbia Heights. If the rumors are true, Warehouse would be moving into the to-be-remade building catty-corner from Red Rocks Pizza on 11th Street. I...

Splash park was NOT working this Saturday (8/4) at all. Lots of disappointed kids and parents when we stopped by to check it out with our friends. Apparently, someone who needed to do something with the chemicals didn't show up and no one else took care of the problem. It was very disappointing.

The hours have now changed yet again, 3-5:30pm instead of 1-3:30pm. The spray park will be closed tomorrow (Sat.) - when it is supposed to be 98 degrees - because there is no one to staff it.
The hours will probably change again in a week or so, with supposedly an another staffer coming in this week and add'l training happening on Wednesday. But this has become a real mess with only a few weeks left in the summer.
Interesting that Fenty named a new director of Parks and Rec today:

I went by there today with my daughter. The spray didn't seem as strong as on the opening day, the staffer on duty said they're still tweaking the system. On August 8, he said someone is supposed to come to give the staff more in-depth training and to get some mechanical issues ironed out like the timer. As I understood it, the water is supposed to be filtered and recycled but that's not setup yet. Currently the staff has to change the water manually after a session, 'quite a job' as the guy put it...

...and for at least some temporary signage...

Thanks for that, Matt. I wrote to Councilmember Muriel Bowser tonight, asking her to push DPR for expanded hours, or least to get some clarification on remaining issues like the timers.

From the DPR Customer Service Rep:
Presently, the hours of the sprinklers are 1:00-3:30 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays. The times will increase once the timer is installed. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Let's hope the timers a) arrive shortly, b) are installed (correctly) and c) are programmed for 7-day usage

Wait for it... wait for it... There it is, the sour twist: the spray park is only open 1-3:30pm M-F, 1-4:30pm Sat, closed Sun.
I'm not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I wouldn't mind being able to ride it more often. No after-work hours? No Sundays? Come on...
And the limited hours aren't even posted anywhere. This is according to the single overworked staffer on duty, who predicted that signs to post the opening times won't arrive until probably the end of the summer.

this park is fantastic! I took my niece and she loved it. I got all teary-eyed when they let all the kids into the spray park...a scene of barely controlled giddy mayhem, they were having a great time.

Anyone know the hours that the water features are available? The DPR www site, predictably, has no useful information.
