We just moved into the neighborhood this week, and would like to know when the next meeting is scheduled. Are these meetings open to anyone? Thanks.

What was the news on the Jair Lynch development?

Yea! for trees!

Most of those present voted FOR the trees. Timothy Jones attempted to table consideration, saying the vote was "divisive." He got only two votes for that effort.
Prior to the meeting I spoke to DDOT's Muhammed Khalid, and I was reminded that a major aspect of this is traffic calming. If you want a sense of what the traffic islands would look like, take a look at 16th Street NW in its upper reaches with the relatively newly installed traffic islands with trees.
Given that we're still waiting for the lights to be restored in Grant Circle after the upteenth accident there from a car speeding up New Hampshire Avenue, it seems obvious that much has to be done to slow down traffic.
Trees on traffic islands will be coming to parts of Sherman Avenue, to NH Avenue below Georgia. They're already on Vermont on both sides of U, a prelude to Sherman, you might say. It didn't make any sense to me to object to trees.
I also came to the conclusion that few people vehemently opposed trees, contrary to Timothy Jones' suggestion. My sense is that he misread his own constituents on this one due to a few vocally, aggressive residents. (I defend their right to be.)
In the end, I saw it as a vote for traffic calming, a visually nice one at that.

Tell us what we should know, Joe: did the trees get the go? Or a greenery-fearing no?
I am so sad I missed the blow by blow...
