My wife and I went to El Limeño last night. Food was very, very good. But the service was not. We went around 9 p.m. and the place was mostly empty, but we waited forever to take our order, and then quite a long time for the food to come, and then again a long time for the check.
I like the food and service at El Torogoz better, fwiw.

My wife and I just ate at El Limeno - Saturday night. There were a good number of folks there - at least 10 parties. The food was outstanding - especially the chicken fajitas (with grilled zuchinni, other veggies and fresh guacamole). The beef tacos and chicken quesadilla were also quite good. The wait staff was friendly and the place was nicely put together. We're planning to head back with friends next week.

Roger Marquez proved to be a very welcoming owner-host when I had dinner at El Limeño for the first time last Sunday. He trained at La Tomate at Connecticut, 20th & R, a warm, welcoming spot in Dupont.
Mr. Marquez told me that Soldiers Home officials stopped in to see him to let him know about the Lincoln Cottage restoration inside the Main Gate. Should visitors to the President Lincoln's "Camp David" wander over to the 200 block of Upshur Street NW, they could provide a needed economic boost to eateries on that block.
The Lincoln Cottage is scheduled to open this spring, I'm told.

My wife and I tried El Limeño tonight, we liked it a lot. Good sized portions for the price and everything was very tasty. For a Friday night it wasn't very crowded though, only a few other customers...

Those of you who have not yet tried El Limeno (2nd and Upshur) *must* go and try it. It is the kind of restaurant worth traveling across town for -- but it's in our own neighborhood!

Nancy Lewis obviously didn't spend enough time at Temperance Hall to notice the flocked velvet wallpaper, the extensive rye whiskey selection, the fact that there's a separate downstairs bar, an outdoor heated patio, nor that Temperance is in fact ADA accessible via the rear. I also doubt she even noticed the extensive and varied musical selections available on the two jukeboxes either.
Personally, I love the chili, moreso on Wednesday nights when it's half price at a whopping $4. Without the sour cream it's very South Beach Diet friendly!
