ANC 4C monthly meeting
Tuesday October 10 (second Tuesday of the month)
7:00pm-9:00pm
MPD Regional Operations Command-North
801 Shepherd Street NW
Among the items on the agenda:
- DC Parks & Recreation Status Report on Petworth Rec Center's proposed new playground
- Motion to approve grant application submitted by Washington Central Parks
- Status Report on Sweet Mango Café Voluntary Agreement
- Motion to approve grant application submitted by the Shepherd Street Block Association
The contractor for the Recreation Center is Keystone, and they have been issued a Notice to Proceed. The construction fencing should go up sometime this week and (hopefully) construction itself will begin immediately thereafter. Keep your eyes open for the Community Day, when the community will be asked/invited to come out and work on the construction; this is part of the deal with the donations provided for the playground equipment. It's taken a long time, but it's finally happening.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I guarantee that they will tell us they have not selected a contractor and the projected is delayed until spring `07. I have zero faith in that office.

I would be interested to know if there was any progress reported at the meeting on the Petworth Rec. Center Playground project. I distinctly remember the September 2006 promise that contractors were selected and work would begin in the first week of October (over a year after the ground-breaking ceremony). Does anyone else find appalling the record of broken promises and lip service that comes from DCPR on this project or is it just me? You would think they were building a space station, it's a playground!
