I voted for bike-sharing, more beat cops, and an anti-litter initiative. Voting ends on June 2nd and the winners get money, a chance to present their ideas to the mayoral candidates, and possible implementation by the city.

Matt, I have to defend the Office of Planning. There are some excellent people working there.
Allow me to repost something I put on the 4C09 site earlier, speaking of planning...
The working draft of the revised Comprehensive Plan is now available and will be presented for review and comment at public meetings being held all over the city.
The presentations provide an overview of proposed revisions to the Comprehensive Plan, and changes to the city's official Land Use Map. While there have been many opportunities for input over the past 18 months, these presentations will be the first time to hear about the Draft document itself. Other opportunities to weigh in are planned - including a Mayor's hearing - but the upcoming presentations are your best chance to ask questions and be heard.
Use the WMATA RideGuide: http://www.wmata.com
to find the best way to get to a meeting using
public transportation.

Maybe they should hire competent city planners to come up with ideas? There are people that go to 4 years of collage to learn to be city planners. Does the city not employ any of these folks?

That was tough. I picked Taking Recycling to the Streets, adding affordable units to condo projects, and stop blocking sidewalks during construction. Mostly because these are all my pet peeves of things we don't already do. But I could have done bike sharing, the vocational program and UDC-East as well.
