[from Joe Martin]
ANC 4C Monthly Meeting
Tuesday May 9, 7:00pm-9:00pm
ROC-North, 801 Shepherd St
Among other things, we will discuss Kera Carpenter's plan to apply for permits to allow outside table service at Domku (821 Upshur). We may have some follow-up discussion about outdoor table service at El Torogoz (9th Street NW between Upshur and Varnum).
Our neighbor from Upshur Street, Carol Herwig, will be returning to ask about a grant for placing banners on a small section of New Hampshire Avenue NW immediately below Grant Circle.
The Metropolitan Police has been invited to send a representative to discuss recent gunfire in our area.
Commissioner Shanel Anthony will update residents of plans for the development by John Formant to be located at Georgia & Upshur where the Shell gas station now sits.
In the future I plan to publish a schedule with the time for different segments for those not interested in committing to two, full hours to attending but may be more interested in one of two agenda items.
I am open to your suggestions. Thanks.
Hey Kevin if you are looking to sell, I'll buy it if the price is right! :-) I own a property in Petworth that I lived in for 3 years before recently renting it out. My lasting impression of my old neighborhood in Petworth is that it is the safest block I have ever lived. I lived between Emerson and Farragut on 4th. The block was so nosy that you could not even have visitors without the whole block knowing who where what and when. I really miss that neighborhood feel.

A few days ago I asked the Metropolitan Police to beef up monitoring of the crosswalks around Grant Circle after hearing from a couple who were almost hit by a car while crossing the street. DC needs to get serious about enforcing pedestrian right-of-way laws. In some other places in the country, you'd be slammed with a steep fine for what is routine behavior here.
Share your thoughts with Commander Hilton Burton and PSA 404's Captain Anthony Poteat:

By the way, Kevin, I'm very pleased to see that the Metropolitan Police were so responsive to your call. As I have noted many times, we have a quite a lot of officers who care about doing a good job, are smart and responsive. At the same time, the 311/911/727-1000 agency, the Unified Communications Center, has been making steady progress in processing calls promptly, responsibly and with sensitivity. People have been fired when needed and sent back to training when needed. The damage of the Barry years lingers, but things are getting better, I genuinely believe.

Gunfire.....I've called the police 4 times in the last few weeks to report this foolishness. In fact, my most recent call was about 12 hours ago! This one even woke Jack up! Good news...within 10-15 minutes, 3 police cars sealed off the alley behind my house and the police did a thorough search of the place.
Unrelated...a woman was crossing NH Ave with a baby carriage in front of my house. She had almost completed her crossing (in the crosswalk, might I add) when a woman started laying on her horn because she had to slow down a bit so this woman and her BABY could finish crossing.
Between the guns and this sort of unbelievable rudeness, I think I've had enough. Does anyone want to buy a house? Jack and I are heading to Maine!
