[from Joe Martin]
A proposed development stirs our neighbors in SMD 4C02. That Single Member District goes roughly west from Georgia to Rock Creek Park between Decatur and Ingraham. SMD 4C01 is also affected. It runs along Colorado Avenue and comes to a point near Missouri. The eastern edge is Georgia Avenue.
Michel Regignano purchased a few homes just off of Georgia Avenue, wants to demolish them and put up a glassy, modern structure with 17 condo units. Some residents are up in arms. Mr. Regignano has talked about accommodating some of their demands and concerns. Legally, he doesn't have to do anything, I understand, but that's not the issue.
A meeting to focus on the issues at hand will take place tonight, Wednesday 2/1 at 6:30pm, at the Emery Recreation Center at Georgia and Madison. Councilmember Fenty and I are hosting the meeting. There will be officials from city departments relevant to the proposal.
If you have an interest in development issues affecting us, you might want to drop in to listen. It is a meeting primarily for people who reside in SMD 4C02 and 4C01. But I think there are issues at hand the will resonate with residents up and down Georgia Avenue.
Georgia Avenue will change. What it looks like will depend on all of us.

What?! It won't be read brick?! Damn him for trying to move this city forward. God forbid that a CITY have architecture that dates from after the first world war in its residential construction. Here is someone that is increasing density most likely -- a good thing from the sprawling center city of a sprawling region -- is taking a chance architecturally and wants to work with the neighbors. We should all smite him for sure. And we wonder why NIMBYs get such a bad name.

ARGH! This is what happens when you miss even a single day of reading Petworth News. Curses! Could someone tell me what happened at the meeting? Had I known of it in time, I would have attended to offer a full-throated support of the new development. Thanks, Gadi.
