[from Joe Martin]
Yet another meeting on a proposed development project for Georgia Avenue is scheduled for this Wednesday, 2/8 at 6:00pm. The meeting will be held at 1125 Spring Road NW (this is a public building that houses the Northwest Community Mental Health Center and other facilities).
There are two competing developers who want to build a modern, multi-story, multi-use building on the lot next to the Wendy's at Georgia and Randolph Streets NW. If you have any interest in the shape of Georgia Avenue to come, please try to attend, speak up, be heard.
Councilmember Adrian Fenty is hosting the meeting with the Petworth Action Committee. ANC 4C (SMD 4C06) Commissioner Peron Williams will also be there.
One of the development companies wants to incorporate a walk-in Wendy's in its proposal. Both propose retail space for the ground floor. One of the developers, Jair Lynch (http://www.jairlynch.com), 1996 Olympic Silver Medalist (gymnastics), wants to include a Results gym in his project. I do not have a web address for the other developer.
There is discussion of including a sit-down restaurant, other than Wendy's, in the building. Plans also call for office space and condos with some designated at market rates, a smaller number at "affordable" rates.
I am very interested in this development as it is practically in my backyard, but I was unable to attend the meeting due to a family emergency. Can anyone fill me in on what I missed? Thank you!
