According to a recent Washington Business Journal article, a condo project is in the works for the Shell station site at Georgia and Upshur. The article says the same developer, Formant Development, was recently near closing on ten rowhouse properties in the 4200 block of 8th Street (around the corner from the commercial strip in the 800 block of Upshur) and is planning to divide them into 24 units.
The full article is posted in the In the Media section at left.
Re Formant, a commercial property slumlord as it concerns H Street NE, see this blog entry from July: Washington DC: Present and Present (http://urbanplacesandspaces.blogspot.com/2005/07/washington-dc-present-and-present.html)

Stay tuned about Temperance. Dan Searing, the manager, told me he'll be posting the opening date here on the Petworth News -- soon.

Has anyone heard about the Temperance Hall opening? It looks ready to go. Or did I somehow miss the opening!

According to the WBJ article, I think this Formant might be the same one that's invested in Capitol Hill and H Street.

What kind of property upkeep do they do on the Hill -- condos or rented apartments? Unfortunately, there seems to be a number of companies out there (I have some personal experience with a few) that run hell-holes for rental units and high-end condos with an entirely different attitude!

Please feel free to provide ANC 4C with specifics. At some point, the Formant company will be coming forward to present development plans to the neighborhood and to ANC 4C.

Hopefully they are not affiliated with John C. Formant, a Capitol Hill realtor with a poor history of property upkeep on H Street and throughout the Hill.
