The pizza place called Mario's at the Georgia Ave/Petworth Metro has closed. I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why? It seemed to be doing great business, with a new patio and ice cream to sell.
I have to say, I could throw a pretty mean pizza crust back when I was in high school in the early 80's. After school I worked at this pizza/sub/beer store in Westbrook, Maine. The owner's son was my pizza making instructor and let's just say that I had a bit of a crush on him. Needless to say, I was a very attentive student.
Perhaps it's time for a career change. Being librarian is glamorous and all, but the pizza needs of Petworth must come first. Stay tuned for more on Jack & Kevin's Pizza opening soon on GA Ave.

mario's in virgina had
execellent pizza 18 years ago.
i have not visited there in awhile so i can not comment. the pizza
at mario's on ga ave was horrible.
the crust was fine but all of the
other ingredients were of such low
quality which rendered the pizza tasteless. bill

The pizza wasn't the best I've had but those chicken & cheese subs were excellent! I miss them already...

I loved Mario's in Arlington, but this one was terrible. I stopped going there after there was a huge fight in the parking lot and the help there cheered instead of calling the police. I did hear that they were moving closer to Howard University in the next few weeks. Lets hope that a new good business comes in its place

I used to go to Marios in Arlington all the time several years ago and was excited when this location opened up. Then I went there. I had some of the worst pizza I've ever eaten there, really bad. I'd be happy to see a new business open up there with a better product.

I was told that the two guys who co-owned the place had a falling out. One hoped to buy out the other's share but he ultimately couldn't afford it. You're right that they were doing a very good business -- hopefully some other entrepreneur will see the opportunity to bring another new business in that space!
