DC Clean City Coordinator Merrit Drucker asked me to remind residents to call 727-1000 for sanitation enforcement issues. If a business or residence isn't keeping their property - and the public space that abuts their property, including sidewalk and curb areas - free of trash, calling 727-1000 with the address will get an inspector there.

Does calling that number work for reporting graffiti (on the back fence of a private residence)?

Walking Wed. nite on orange hat patrol, through the alleys uncovered some pretty deplorable conditions, a-la what Elvira mentioned. Trash in open garages, trash bags sitting out on the alleyway out of containers, an old abandoned car with a lot of brush around it. It is a shame that people are living like this, and are the first to cry 'rat'. Anyone can, and should, report to 7-1000 these conditions, as I plan to do for the alley behind the 200 block of Rock Creek Church Rd. Take a walk through there and see...

If it's really bad, you could and should call 727-1000 and report the problems. Overgrowth, trash, abandoned cars, even on private property, are enforceable issues. But obviously, reporting thy neighbor (they could be fined) could be thorny if they know it's you... ;)

My neighbor's yard is a jungle. I'm literally afraid that a snake or something like that could come crawling out. Does anyone know if we can do anything about neighbors who don't keep their property - and the public space that surrounds it clean and mowed?
