Orange hat patrols may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you're in the neighborhood east of Grant Circle, the irrepressible Minnie Green leads a longstanding group that kicks off from Upshur and Third Street NW every Monday and Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm.
A rather gentle way of engaging in community-monitoring, studies show these kinds of patrols do have an impact as one of the more visible signs of concerned residents. They also provide a nice way of meeting one's neighbors. Minnie serves as a kind of walking oral historian while leading the pack around. And, hey, you might even land your own fluorescent-orange baseball hat.

There is also a Parkview group that meets on Park and Lamont each Thursday too I believe.
