Domku's first week

Thank you to everyone that came in to try us as we got our feet wet this past week. Your support and patience meant a lot to us. Hang in there with us while we get ready to extend our hours and menu. This was a soft opening so we could test the staff and menu. In a few weeks Kera will have the grand opening but feel free to drop in and give us a try. Eric and Marja (the chefs) have worked hard to see this happen. Kera is so excited at the response from the hood and thanks you.

Damn, but that was really some good food last night!  I had my doubts about an Eastern European menu theme, but they are all allayed.

I just ate at Domku today. This will become a good trendy spot. Sandwich and tea were attractively served and tasty. Tea service in unique (to me) container/mug. Fair price. Good value for money.

Officer Morris

Officer Matthew Morris, who has been a friendly and steady ally in Petworth, recently got out of the hospital after a bout of double pneumonia. He's back on the job, so if you see Matt around be sure to wish him well and welcome him back.

4C09 meeting

ANC 4C09 Single Member District (SMD) meeting
Wednesday, January 19, 7pm

ANC Commissioner Joseph Martin (SMD 4C09) will hold the first monthly meeting of the new year for ANC 4C09 in the Multipurpose Room on the 1st floor of Barnard Elementary School, 430 Decatur St NW. The meeting is open to all. You need not reside in SMD 4C09 to come and participate. There will be reports from DC Public Schools facilities personnel, Metro Police on crime activity, and a chance to discuss your issues and concerns about the neighborhood.

Mugging

I was mugged last night (Wed 1/12) shortly before 6pm in the 4100 block of New Hampshire Avenue while walking home from the metro. The mugger attacked from behind, locked one arm around my head and had a sharp half-pair of shears in his other hand. He took cash and a cell phone. The police responded fairly quickly but I did not get a good enough look at him to be much help -- youngish black man, over six feet tall, dark jacket, black wool cap, jeans.

There was a witness. A woman walked right by while it was happening, looked the guy in the face, smiled even, and kept walking. I caught up with her after he fled and asked "Is that a friend of yours?" She: "I didn't see anything, I don't know anybody, don't follow me." Me: "Why did you smile at him if you don't know him?" She: "I was just being polite." "Polite while he is mugging me?!?!" "I don't know anything, don't follow me."

Anyway, watch your back. The policeman who responded said they have had a lot of these lately.

Goings-on

Did you see our "speed bump" in the middle of lower 7th street?  See, we can get some positive things done.

I cannot believe this cafe issue has gone on as long as it has.

Also, the seafood place Kings Seafood in lower Upshur is moving to a larger location on upper Upshur Street across from the Hitching Post, just before you get to Soldier's Home entrance... She wants a sit-down, perhaps offering breakfast as well.

I found this out during December... and I see where construction is being done.

The "Unity Coalition" rallied candidates for what would have become empty seats, saving the commission from the possibility of becoming defunct in the upcoming 2-year term. Many previous commissioners were resigning in frustration at the recent conflicts and ineffectiveness of ANC 4C. This group promises to be proactive and progressive in promoting the interests of Petworth residents.
