Down in Columbia Heights, the Tivoli redevelopment nears completion, which will hopefully help fill the retail/restaurant void between Petworth and Adams-Morgan.
A bit of history, the Tivoli was originally built by theater magnate Harry Crandall [no relation to yours truly, as far as I know] to bounce back after the infamous 1922 disaster at Crandall's Knickerbocker theater at 18th and Columbia Road. A heavy snowfall caused the Knickerbocker's roof to collapse during a packed show, killing or injuring most inside.
