This morning (11/22) Melanie, a neighbor who lives on New Hampshire just above Taylor, had her parked car hit for the third time in three years.
Her neighbor's new pickup truck was also badly damaged, taking the initial impact which pushed it into Melanie's car. According to a neighbor who witnessed the incident, the driver got out of his vehicle, looked at the damage, and walked away toward Grant Circle. Another neighbor briefly gave chase but the driver ran away.
It seems the city should take a serious look at some kind of traffic control measure at Taylor and New Hampshire. In addition to the repeated accidents, it can be very difficult and unsafe for pedestrians and cars to cross the wide intersection.
Pretty typical on New Hampshire Ave - the speeds are crazy! We are pushing DDOT to install planted medians on New Hampshire to help in reducing speeds up & down this street. They really should run from Park Road to Grant circle. So far we have succeeded in getting DDOT to secure financing to do the design work for the project. Money for construction is still questionable.
From our numerous requests, we have had DDOT install, on New Hampshire Ave, striped crosswalks, flashing lights for pedestrian crossing for Raymond Elementary, just last week they installed an electronic speed monitoring sign, and a stoplight will be installed at Spring & New Hampshire.
DDOT operates very slowly, but persistance seems to work best...

I would love to see traffic controls along NH and Sherman. These two roads are considered a speedway bypass to GA Ave.
